Auguste Dupuy was an amateur artist. I’m descended from his daughter Mary and her husband William evans. I think one of their daughters married a Dunbar and had my grandmother Ruth Dunbar Pavy. Our family has the remains of a scrapbook of his drawings and a piece of confederate flag and a confederate 5$ note with a small piece of text that says “this was the last pay I got in the war” or something to that effect. Many of his drawings are quite good. Mostly birds but some other animals as well
Does anyone know where his grave is? I know where sally Emma’s is. My great aunts and grandmother are buried very close by at myrtle grove cemetery. Would love to hear the rest of Auguste’s story. I also have a letter or two he wrote in French to the French consulate in New Orleans. I think he was trying to trace a relative still in France.
Thanks,
Eric Futral
Thank you for commenting, Eric. I had no idea that Auguste was an amateur artist. His grave is at Myrtle Grove as well (his obituary says he "was buried at the Protestant cemetery after the funeral ceremonies at the Methodist church")—I suspect it is the unmarked grave next to Sally Emma's. I have not tried to confirm that, but the cemetery office probably has records that would show whether it is true.
I have lots more information about his parents (when I was considering becoming a professional genealogist, I used his father as my case study for the training). I will email you to share some of that. Thanks again for sharing your story!
